My introductory design for EdTech 506 really shows where my head is at right now. I'm a writer and designer by trade. Design plays a big role in my work as a publisher of books.
Visual Adventures in Wonderland...
Currently, I'm working on a series highlighting "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and other classics. My personal design reflects this: This is what will become the cover of a non-digital password journal (paperback) that people can use to store their passwords in. It also reflects a larger theme in my work, which hopefully encourages women and girls to embrace their own inner superhero qualities, even if those qualities are a bit quirky. Elements of this design may also be seen in my final project, depending upon what the parameters of that are.
Visual Literacy Strategies I'd Like to Learn...
I really love BSU's EdTech program, because it allows us to tailor our assignments to enhance and refine what's going on in our work lives. Therefore, my goals for this class are to really develop my design skills further and to develop some solid visual literacy strategies.
I also want to get a solid command of some different digital design tools like Fireworks and Illustrator as well as to develop a deep understanding of how visual communication works in our lives (and indeed how it can change our lives). I was especially intrigued by the citation in the book that recalled how badly designed slides contributed to the Columbia disaster. (Lohr)
I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all. I'm excited to be in a class with people who are excited about design. I hope to learn a lot from you.
